The cold war between president Muhammadu Buhari and the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu appears to be taking a dangerous dimension as the former has insisted that there is no going back over the phasing out of old naira notes by 31 of January 2023.

He stated this in an interview obtained by News Band Newspaper.

Buhari in the interview noted that enough time frame has been given to Nigerians to return the old notes and the deadline by the Central Bank of Nigeria remains sacrosanct.

On the aspect of February’s election, president Buhari urged Nigerians to vote for any candidate of their choice from any Party.

He also warned that no individual will be allowed to mobilize resources and thugs to intimidate people in any constituency.

He said, “In the change of currency, I think that they have issued a lot of money but time is been given from October to January, 3 months is enough for whatever money you have to be exchanged through a legal system. I don’t know why people are complaining about it.

“There is no going back on the policy. My aim is to make sure that Nigerians believe that we respect them as an administration.

“So, Nigerians should vote whomever they like, from whichever party. Nobody will be allowed to mobilize resources and thugs to intimidate people in any constituency. This is what I want to go down in Nigerian history for.

Meanwhile, this is coming after Bola Tinubu, during his presidential rally in Abeokuta, alleged that the current fuel scarcity being experienced in the country and the redesigning of the naira were grand plans by saboteurs in Buhari’s administration to scuttle the 2023 general elections.

He said, “Let fuel be expensive, only they know where they keep it. Keep petrol, keep the naira, we will vote and be elected. You may change the ink of naira notes. What you expect will not happen. We will win,” the APC flag-bearer stated in Yoruba parlance.

“They said petrol will rise to N200/litre and N500/litre, let your mind be at rest. They don’t want these forthcoming elections to hold. They want to scatter it but that won’t be possible.

“They thought they could cause trouble; they sabotaged fuel but with or without fuel, with or without motorcycles and tricycles, we will vote and win. This is a superior revolution.”

“We will take over government through our PVCs. Even if they say there is no fuel, we will trek to the polling units,” he added.
