The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has commenced its planned indefinite nationwide strike on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.
JUSUN strike enforcement officials were seen on Tuesday locking up courts and evicting staff members to enforce the strike action.
The unionists sealed some courts and offices and pasted notices indicating commencement of the court shutdown.
JUSUN national leadership had on April 1, in a circular signed by its General Secretary, I. M. Adetola, ordered closure of courts from April 6.
The courts closure is expected to remain in force until federal government recognises the financial autonomy of the Judiciary.
The Judiciary Staff Union also asked the government to comply with the Constitution, court judgments and other instruments in the country.
The union cited a 21-day ultimatum to the government seeking to implement the financial autonomy of the judiciary, “failure of which JUSUN will have no other option but to resume the suspended national strike action.”
“Therefore, as a result of the public holiday on April 5, 2021, the strike action has been postponed to Tuesday, April 6, 2021,” it said.
JUSUN directed all states and zonal chapters of the union to comply with the strike.
