The House of Representatives, on Thursday, rose in an uproar over the request by President Muhammadu Buhari to include the $496 million fund for the purchase of Tucano aircraft in the 2018 Appropriation Bill.

President Buhari had, earlier in the week, asked the National Assembly to make such inclusion via a letter to the legislative body.

However, some members argued that the request should be presented as a bill and not in form of a motion as presented by the Acting Deputy Leader Mohammed Monguno.

However, others noted that the spending process had already been declared illegal and the motion shouldn’t be considered by the House.

During Thursday’s plenary at the Lower Chamber, the purchase of the Tucano aircraft raised many concerns to the lawmakers.

Similarly, the Senate had directed its Committee on Judiciary to find out if any infraction was committed by President Buhari in his approval of the $496 million fund for the purchase of the aircrafts.

The Senate asked the committee to report back its findings on Wednesday, May 3rd.
