Senator Joshua Dariye has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for criminal breach of trust, 2 years for misappropriation of public funds.

The Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Gudu, Abuja, has found the former Plateau State governor, Mr. Joshua Dariye guilty of misappropriating N1.16 billion Ecological Fund meant for the state.
Dariye is being prosecuted by Nigeria’s leading anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC].
EFCC is responsible for investigation and enforcement of all economic and financial crimes laws in Nigeria.
Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the FCT High Court also found Senator Joshua Dariye guilty of criminal breach of trust as regards N250 million issued to Pinnacle Communications emanating from the state’s Ecological Fund.

The presiding judge paused the delivering of judgment in the fraud case against the former governor.
Dariye had signalled to a court official and whispered to him.
The official subsequently informed the judge that Dariye had requested for a short break to be able to use the toilet.
The judge, who was still addressing the preliminary issues raised in the defence written address, said the court would rise for few minutes to allow Dariye to use the toilet.
Meanwhile, the proceeding is still ongoing.
