The incumbent governor of Ondo State, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu has emerged the the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the  governorship election coming up on October 10, 2020.

His declaration followed the party’s primary election held at the International Conference Centre, Akure on Monday.

Akeredolu was declared winner of the primary election after securing the highest number of lawful votes.

Chairman of the governorship primary election committee and the Governor of Kogi State, Mr Yahaya Bello announced the results.

Akeredolu polled the highest number of votes in all the 18 local government areas of the state.

He beat his closest rival, Chief Olusola Oke with over 50 percent according to Governor Bello.

Other participants in the primary election include Olaide Adelami, Mrs Jumoke Anifowose, Nathaniel Adojutelegan, Sola Iji, Isaacs Kekemeke, and Bukola Adetula.

ElombahNews reported earlier that some aspirants stepped down for Akeredolu.

These include Jimi Odimayo, Ife Oyedele and Olusegun Abraham.

The three aspirants said they took the decision after due consultation with members and stakeholders of the party from both within and outside the state.

On his part, Governor Bello described the election as free and fair.

He said members of the committee were fair to all the aspirants that participated in the election.

Bello urged all the aspirants that participated in the election to support the party’s candidate to ensure the victory of the party in the governorship election.

He said the outcome of the election showed the level of acceptance of Akeredolu by members of the party in the state.
