PRESS RELEASE

Our attention has been drawn to various comments on social media regarding the apparent victimization of our client, Ms. Bolouere Opukiri, by the Nigerian government and others due to alleged critical views about the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo, credited to our client by the government.

We wish to convey our appreciation to conscientious Nigerians, the media, human rights community and spirited public affairs commentators who have demonstrated their commitment to a sane and democratic Nigeria where the rights of citizens are respected without regard to political differences, differing views, social or religious inclinations by deprecating this gruesome attack on free speech and due process of law.

Regrettably, we have observed that some persons have undertaken the ignoble task of twisting the facts of this case in order to create a false and misleading narrative that suits their skewed, insatiable partisan cravings. It is therefore imperative to admonish those who are seeking to defame our client with false, fabricated and or malicious attributions to retrace their steps.

In the coming days, we shall initiate actions and processes aimed at seeking justice and legal redress for our client through a court of competent jurisdiction.

The legal action that will be taken is not just about seeking justice for our client over her dismissal by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, but to remind those who have been intoxicated by power and seduced by despotic proclivities that Nigeria is a nation of laws and not a banana republic.

We believe that the Judiciary is still the last hope of the oppressed, the nemesis of tyrants and the guardian of our Constitution.

Finally, we wish to assure Nigerians that our client, Bolouere, is in high spirit and will neither be cowed nor blackmailed into silence.

Thank you.

Signed:

Inibehe Effiong Esq.
Counsel to Ms. Bolouere Opukiri
