Police authorities in Anambra on Wednesday successfully thwarted the activities of criminal elements enforcing illegal sit-at-home.

This was disclosed by the spokesman of the command, SP Tochukwuu Ikenga.

According to the police image maker, operatives acting on intelligence, set up an ambush on May 29, 2024, around 2pm, targeting miscreants along the Oba flyover in Idemili South.

The operation resulted in the interception of a gang of four armed men on motorbikes.

One of the suspects, believed to be affiliated with IPOB, was killed, while the other three managed to flee the scene with bullet injuries.

Recovered from the scene were a locally made Beretta pistol, four spent cartridges, two phones, and various materials indicating disloyalty to the Nigerian government.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the armed men were regrouping to enforce an illegal sit-at-home order scheduled for May 30, 2024.

In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police has instructed the operatives to maintain their aggressive stance against criminal elements, ensuring they are denied any opportunity to create disorder in the state.

However, the police are actively pursuing the three armed men who escaped from the scene.

This decisive action underscores the commitment of the Anambra State Police Command to uphold law and order, and to prevent illegal activities that threaten the peace and security of the state.
