Baraza: Wives, child of slain Bauchi lawmaker rescued
The two wives and a child of the murdered member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, representing Dass Constituency, Musa Baraza, have been rescued by security operatives.
ElombahNews reported on August 14 that the member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly was killed by suspected gunmen.
A source in Bauchi said that Mante was killed on Thursday at his residence in Dass.
The source said that gunmen, suspected to be armed robbers, invaded the house of the deceased at the wee hours of the night, firing shots at him.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command in state, DSP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the incident.
Wakil added that the gunmen kidnapped the two wives and a daughter of the deceased lawmaker.
He gave the names of the abducted wives as Rashida Musa Mante (40) and Rahina Musa Mante (35).
The daughter was identified as Fausar Musa Mante (one year old).
He also disclosed that four empty shells of life ammunitions were recovered at the scene of the murder.
In a later development on Tuesday, however, news broke out that the abducted women have regained their freedom after five days in captivity.
The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the release of the abducted victims following reliable information.
According to the police source, security operatives acted on the information which was volunteered by members of the public.
The Chief of Staff, Bauchi Government House, Dr Ladan Salihu, confirmed the news of their release on his Twitter handle.
“Alhamdulillah! The wives of Hon. Musa Baraza, Bauchi House Member murdered 4 days ago in Dass have regained Freedom.
“The one year-old baby abducted along with them is also released.”
Dr. Salihu noted that the state governor, Senator Bala Mohammed has issued directive to doctors and security operatives to give them adequate care and attention.
