Bandits kill 6 Nigerian soldiers, kidnap 1 captain in Niger

Suspected bandits have ambushed and killed six soldiers and abducted one captain in two communities of Shiroro local government area of Niger State.

Two farmers were also killed while houses, food banks and motorcycles were burnt by the criminal elements.

Sources according to Dailytrust said that the attack started around 9pm on Friday and lasted for hours.

One of the sources who doesn’t want to be quoted said, “Six soldiers lost their lives and one volunteer hunter.”

Another source identified as Mustapha Bassa, said bandits in their numbers rode on motorcycles, shot sporadically as they moved into the communities.

While confirming the incident, commissioner for Homeland Security, Bello Mohammed, said “all hands were on deck” to bring the perpetrators to book.

“All hands are on deck to bring the perpetrators to face the law. Government, on her own, is doing everything possible to end the insecurity issues.

“Additionally, the government will stand by the bereaved and share their grief as well as support them, now and in the long term,” the commissioner, who is a retired Brigadier General, said.
