Banditry: Police Ban Use Of Motorcycle In Adamawa State

The Adamawa State Police Command has announced a total ban on motorcycle operators across the state.
The command in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, SP Othman Abubakar, on Tuesday said the ban became necessary to check the incessant use of motorcycle by criminals for kidnapping, banditry and communal clashes.
It warned that the command would commence patrol to arrest anyone who violated the ban.
“The Adamawa State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of the total ban of the use of motorcycles throughout the state, that is the 21 Local Government Areas of the state, till further notice.
“This has become necessary because of the incessant use of such motorcycles in the commission of heinous crimes such as kidnapping, armed banditry, communal clashes and other criminal activities in the state.
“By this announcement, the command will go all out on aggressive patrol and arrest of any defaulter of this directive.”
It urged the public to be law abiding, support and cooperate with the police in its effort to protect lives and properties.
Recall that ElombahNews, on Monday, reported that the Nigerian Army banned use of motorcycles within the hinterland and forests of Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna, Kebbi and Niger states.
The acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col Sagir Musa announced this in a press statement he signed.
Col Musa observed that motorcycles are used by bandits, kidnappers, criminal elements and their collaborators to perpetrate crimes.

He said: “The army has over time observed the use of motorcycles by bandits, kidnappers, criminal elements and their collaborators as enablers to perpetrate their crimes, especially in the states within the North-West region.
“This informed the directive to ban the use of motorcycles within the hinterland, particularly around the forests where the bandits, criminals and kidnappers hibernate and all around where troops are conducting operations alongside other security agencies.
“While this may cause some inconveniences to some law-abiding citizens in the area, the need to use all means possible to stop the dastardly activities of these bandits across the North-West part of Nigeria need no emphasis.”
Musa, therefore, enjoined the general public, particularly in the North-West and some parts of North-Central in Nigeria where Exercise Harbin Kunama is ongoing, to bear with the army as concerted efforts are being made to combat the insecurity menace ongoing within the area.
A similar ban was made in 2014 when insurgents activities escalated in the northern part of the state.
