The Federal Government has, on Wednesday, charged the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and Senator Bassey Akpan with offences bordering on assets declaration.

Two separate sets of charges were instituted against the senators, ElombahNews gathered.

The criminal suits were marked FHC/ABJ/CR/62/2018 and dated May 11, 2018 against Ekweremadu, the one marked FHC/ABJ/CR/88/2018 and dated June 13, 2018, was against Akpan.

The duo of Senators Ekweremadu and  Akpan were charged at the Federal High Court in Abuja before Justice John Tsoho.

The federal government alleged that they refused to declare their assets to the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property [SPIPRPP].

During the hearing of the case, Justice Tsoho ordered that the charges and other accompanying papers be served on them through the Clerk of the National Assembly.

The judge also orders the Okoi Obono-Obla-led SPIPRPP that the accused persons be served through substituted means.

He, thereafter, fixed October 22 for the next hearing date in respect of Senator Ekweremadu and November 19 for Senator Akpan.
