The Kano State chapter of the All Progressive Congress State Working Committee, has abruptly suspended some ward party leaders who on Tuesday announced the suspension of the National Chairman of the Party, Abdullahi Ganduje.

NewsBand reported that Mr Ganduje was suspended by members of his ward, the Ganduje Ward in the Dawakin Tofa local government area of Kano State over corruption allegations.

The suspension was announced by Halliru Gwanzo, legal adviser of the ward while addressing newsmen in Kano on Monday.

Gwanzo said that Ganduje has to clear his name of corruption allegations regarding his long-standing dollar case.

However, in a quick response by the party’s local government office, the suspension was immediately thwarted and those behind it were sacked.

The APC Dawakin Tofa local government chairman, Mr Inusa Suleiman Dawanau, told newsmen in Kano on Monday that those behind the suspension of the national chairman were caught in anti-party activities with records of their meetings with the ruling opposition exposed.

In addition to the suspension, the State Working Committee (SWC) has also sanctioned them for six months and a special investigation panel has been constituted to verify several allegations against them.

“We have evidence of meetings between the state government officials and those that suspended the National Chairman, and SWC has agreed to sanction them for six months and they now stand suspended” the chairman said.

The SWC has since declared that the suspension of the national chairman is invalid and remains null and void.

Recall that Daily Nigerian, a digital media had captured Ganduje in a video allegedly receiving bundles of dollar notes as a bribe from a man said to be a contractor and stuffing them in the pockets of his gown.

Though, Mr Ganduje had denied the content of the video when it first surfaced online and maintained his innocence.

But the current administration of governor Abba Yusuf revisited the case, vowing to prosecute the ex-governor.

The Kano High Court would arraign Ganduje on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 on charges bordering on allegations of bribery, diversion, and misappropriation of funds, including the purported acceptance of $413,000 and N1.38bn in bribes.

The Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi, had said Ganduje would be arraigned alongside his wife and six others.

The Yusuf administration, which initiated the criminal suit against the eight respondents, had declared its readiness to present 15 witnesses to testify before Justice Usman Na’aba of State High Court.
