Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, has hailed Chief George Chidubem Moghalu, the outgoing managing director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) for his great achievement while heading the agency.
The spokesman of APC in Anambra State, Okelo Madukaife in a statement said when the history of NIWA is written, Moghalu will wear a very colourful garlands for the significant impact he made.
According to Madukaife, Mr Moghalu as Managing Director of NIWA, succeeded in raising the revenue of the waterways Authority by 1000 percent, hitting N11 billion, up from N1billion.
Part of the statement reads, “Our dynamic chapter of the great All Progressives Congress (APC) is overtly proud of the concrete achievements of Chief George Chidubem Moghalu in the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), a grade A parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Transportation.
“In Moghalu’s four years years as Managing Director of NIWA, he was able to marshal his team and deploy strategies to raise the revenue of the waterways Authority by 1000 percent, hitting N11 billion, up from N1billion.
“Leading up to this, there was a visible burst in the awareness of the body in charge of inland navigation and opening up of many channels in hitherto unnavigable water courses.
“The Imo River and Otamiru Dredging projects, the resuscitation of abandoned Lokoja and Oguta port projects form part of the bold and courageous capital initiatives of NIWA under Moghalu, in an era replete with trainings on awareness and safety.
“But even more significant in terms of being strategic to the Nigerian economy is the activation of the Onicha River Port, comatose for 40 years and the delivery of barges through the station from the coastlines, achieved through private sector involvement through concessioning.
“When the history of NIWA is written, Moghalu will wear very colourful garlands.
“We are grateful to God that the embodiment of such dexterity, creativity, and practical resourcefulness comes from Anambra State.
“We thank President Muhammadu Buhari for finding Ohamadike Nnewi suitable for appointment to record such feats to the credit of both the Managing Director and the Federal Government.
“As he exits a bright career in NIWA, we congratulate Moghalu, who had before the latest office served in the local government system and state agencies of Abia State before joining party politics where he rose to become the National Secretary of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) one of the three legacy parties APC.
“Moghalu was in the vanguard of the merger negotiation team of ANPP and thereafter stepped down his governorship ambition, that made its debut in 2007, to support the 2013 gubernatorial bid of HE Senator Chris Nwabueze Ngige, the first of such contests under the then new party, becoming the Director General of the impactful campaign.
“Chief Moghalu was later elected National Auditor of APC from where he doubled as a board member of Nigerian Communications and Satellite Company ( NIGCOMSAT) before his stellar foray into NIWA
“When history challenged Moghalu and 12 other aspirants to defend the integrity of the primaries process in 2021Anambra APC, he honoured the date with eight of them head-on and became the arrowhead of a constitutional and ethical struggle to ward off imported negative values in Anambra State Chapter of APC,to a crowning success.
“Little wonder this bundle of intellect and integrity is a close confidant of the royal stool of Nnewi and yet one of the greatest orators to have emerged from the state of Dim. Chukwuemeka Odimegwu-Ojukwu.
“We hail this Nnewi-born leader and management champion of men, machines, money, and materials and urge this man who has never decamped from his political party to keep his standards, wherever the future takes him to.
“We salute George Chidubem Moghalu, Ohamadike, and wish him well in his future strides.”
