The Yoruba Security Network codenamed ‘Operation Amotekun’ in Ondo State says it has arrested one Wasiu Olamide in connection with the theft of over 100 motorcycles in Ondo, Osun, Oyo, and Ogun states.

The commander of the Amotekun Corps in the state, Mr Adetunji Adeleye, said the 35-year-old suspect was arrested after a series of complaints by victims who he had robbed in Akure, Ondo State capital.

The suspect was arrested with seven other suspects suspected for various crimes.

Adeleye said Wasiu, who is the ringleader of the syndicate operating within the South West region, usually robbed his victims at gunpoint and sold the motorcycles.

“We have a syndicate that operates within Ondo, Osun, Oyo, and Ogun in stealing motorcycles, but we have been able to apprehend the ringleader (Wasiu) who confessed to having stolen over 100 motorcycles in the past three months.

“The suspect usually operates within the South West region where he snatches motorbikes from their owners at gunpoint and takes them to a hideout where the bikes would be dismantled before selling them and there’s a buyer that comes midway and harvest all the motorcycles and cart them away,” he said.

He added that the suspect, who is an indigene of Osun State, carried out his criminal business around Iwaraja junction on the border of Ekiti State.

Mr Adeleye said his men also arrested suspects over illegal possession of weapons and firearms, kidnapping, and impersonation among others.
