Senator Shehu Sani once said that if Buhari hears what his purported supporters say about him in private he will be shocked!
Nigeria’s transport minister, Rotimi Amaechi, has been heard in an audio recording to be expressing shocking pessimistic views about Nigeria and the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, whose re-election bid he leads.
The recording was shared with newsmen by Phrank Shaibu, a spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar campaign.
Mr Abubakar, billionaire former vice-president, of the Peoples Democratic Party, is the main challenger of Mr Buhari, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, in next month’s presidential election.
The recording contains a portrayal of Mr Buhari as a dismal failure who has been unable to meet the expectations of various segments of the society, ending with a dismissal of Nigeria as a never-going-to-change hopeless nation.
The transcript of the recording reads: “These are not things you publish ooo. If you publish them, you will never sit with me any day.
“Three years of Buhari oo, everybody is crying, crying…pressmen are crying, farmers are crying, workers are crying, politicians are crying, students are crying, three years oo!
“The rate of poverty is very high. The people are hungry. Nigeria will never change!”
In an earlier recording also shared by the Atiku campaign, Mr Amaechi appeared to be describing Mr Buhari as a leader that does not listen and care.
According to the recording: “The president does not listen to anybody. He doesn’t care. You can write what you want to write. The president doesn’t care. Does he read? He will read, he will laugh. He will say ‘come, come and see, they are abusing me here’.
“In fact, there was one case of somebody in Onitsha, a trader in Onitsha who couldn’t sell his goats during Sallah. And I was with Oga on the plane and the man was busy abusing Buhari. He said, ‘Amaechi, come, what is my business with Onitsha goat seller?’”
I can tell you right now that the Amaechi camp will deny the recording. As long as there is no video it is deniable.
However, Amaechi’s voice/manner of speech is distinct and unmistakable, so no denial will fly if the message is played to reasonable people. I have listened to a snippet of it and there is no doubt that was Amaechi speaking.
The report on is so detailed that if the voice matches his, Amaechi would not only be stupid to have uttered those words while still serving as Minister and reelection campaign head (unless he was speaking to his confidants and one of them betrayed his trust) but he must also resign from the administration and from leading president Buhari’s reelection. If the Onitsha goat trader’s incident did occur between him and the president, that clearly proves to president Buhari that the tape is authentic, so the only honorable thing left for Amaechi is resignation or be humiliated through firing — president Buhari would be stupid to not fire him.
The text, as narrated clearly shows that Chibuike Amaechi has no respect for the president’s intelligence, leadership ability, and concern for the citizens’ plight. A person with such a conviction will not seriously work for the president’s reelection. Advising the president is part of a Minister’s job, so if this Minister is saying that his President does not listen to advice or read whatever was written for his action, the Minister’s option is resignation — Defense Secretary Jim Mattis recently resigned from president Trump’s administration over a similar lack of confidence in his boss — president Trump.
Amaechi has echoed the feelings of everybody in the country but here is the catch: even those that are hungry and suffering would still go out and cast their vote for him. Talk of voting against your interest. Nigerians need education on democracy and how to vote to move the country forward.

Reasonable people don’t disagree that president Buhari has unperformed, what they disagree is that Atiku Abubakar/PDP is the solution.
I have also to the tape, and Without a doubt, that’s Chibuike Amaechi’s voice. He was confiding in some people, he even asked them not publish what he was saying, yet someone divulged what was said in confidence. I find that type of behavior troubling — people who don’t keep promises of confidentiality are as much corrupt as looters of the economy and 419ners.
This tape is more revealing of what ails Nigeria than a mere badmouthing of president Buhari by an aide of his — you PDP Bantus are not seeing the deeper aspect of it, you are just reveling over its simplistic aspect. Nigeria has finished!
Nevertheless, Amaechi should resign or be fired by the president because his words are troubling on many angles. He claimed to have said, while a governor, that Nigeria was hopeless and not subject to redeeming, and he then repeats such pessimism while a serving Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. A person with such pessimism and faithlessness over Nigeria should not hold public offices, especially of the caliber he has held and still holds. What is the difference between Amaechi and IPOB’s Nnamdi Kanu?
According to Nebukadineze Adiele, if Amaechi is feeling this way toward a president whose campaign he headed in 2015 and heads now, and in whose administration he is Minister, chances are that he will sabotage the president’s reelection for Atiku Abubakar, whose judgment, dedication to duty, and intelligence he appreciates. The claim that the Minister is studying the tape before making any comment is utterly stupid, unless it is a code word for his weighing whether to resign or he is awaiting being fired. Buharites must demand Amaechi’s resignation or firing, period.
