Again, gunmen go berserk in Anambra, kill four civilians

Gunmen on Thursday, reportedly attacked and killed four civilians at Eke Awgbu market in Anambra State.

Eke Awgbu is one of the most popular market in Anambra State, located at central town of Awgbu in Orumba North local government area of the State.

News Band gathered that the gunmen in a commando style, launched a vacious attack at the local market, shooting and setting shops ablaze before eloping to their rendezvous.

A local source who confirmed that four villagers were killed, said that before the attack, the criminal elements were confronted by Agulu local vigilante for terrorizing their community.

Some of the hoodlums during the face-off were arrested by the local security network.

This medium also gathered that some villagers who could not hold back their frustration following the nefarious activities of the gunmen dealt with them at Eke Awgbu square.

However, following the confrontation that ensued between the gunmen and the local security network, another group in a reprisal mission, returned at about 9pm on Thursday, killing and setting shops on fire.

Others were said to have sustained injuries during the unfortunate incident.

When News Band contacted DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, Anambra police command spokesman over the development, he did not pick his call.

Chief press secretary to governor Chukwuma Soludo, Christian Aburime, also denied having knowledge of the attack but promised to get back to this medium.
