The Super Eagles of Nigeria have returned to their winning form after a close victory against Guinea-Bissau in Bissau on Monday.

Nantes winger Moses Simon scored the winning goal as the Super Eagles defeated the Wild Dogs 1-0 to regain their position at the top of the table.

The Super Eagles knew they had to win after their surprising defeat at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja. They started the game positively and dominated the first quarter, but Guinea-Bissau defended well. Nigeria put pressure on the Wild Dogs, who were content to sit back and soak up the pressure.

Just before the half-hour mark, Fenerbahce full-back Bright Osayi-Samuel was fouled in the Guinea-Bissau box and the Moroccan referee awarded Nigeria a penalty, which Moses converted to give Nigeria the lead.

Nigeria had another chance to score five minutes later, but Chukwueze missed the opportunity. Nigeria went into the half-time break with a slim lead.

In the second half, Nigeria searched for the second goal to kill off the game, but it wasn’t until just before the hour mark that they came close when Osimhen hit the post.

A defensive mix-up in the Nigerian defense almost gave Guinea-Bissau a chance to equalize, but their efforts came to naught.

The Super Eagles held on to their slim lead, and Joe Aribo nearly made an immediate impact with a well-taken effort that was saved by the Guinea-Bissau goalkeeper.

This was the last real opportunity in the game as Nigeria held on to take home a narrow win that sees them return to the top of Group A.
