Despite fierce opposition from the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Barrister Julius Abure, has been officially re-elected as the National Chairman of the Labour Party for a second term.

Mr Abure was re-elected through a unanimous affirmation of delegates today.

The deputy governor of Abia State, Mr Ikechukwu Emetu, declared Abure the winner during the party’s national convention held on Wednesday in Nnewi, Anambra State.

Recall that Abure has been having a serious face-off with the NLC leadership led by Joe Ajaero.

NLC had called for Abure’s resignation as party chairman and the immediate constitution of a caretaker transition committee to organise a legitimate and all-inclusive national convention for the party.
