Police in Sokoto State has confirmed the arrest of two officers who were allegedly involved in the abduction of minors in the state.

The spokesman of the command in Sokoto, ASP Ahmad Rufai, who confirmed the arrest of the operatives identified as ASP Kulu and one Elizabeth, said the command has began investigations into the alleged abduction of five children from the state.

ASP Kulu, alongside her accomplice, Elizabeth, were apprehended by the FCT police command for abducting five children, including a less than two-week-old baby girl in the state.

Rufai said, “Both the suspects and victims were transferred and handed over to the command from FCT police command for further investigation into the matter.”

Among those abducted were three toddlers under the age of two, and a five-year-old named Asmau Ya’u, who was reportedly abducted while on her way to an Islamiyya school in Sokoto.

The suspects were said to have been arrested while travelling from Sokoto to Abuja in an 18-seater commercial bus when some passengers alerted the police near Abuja after noticing that the custodians of the children could not breastfeed them during the seven-hour journey.

The state official of the Human Rights Network, Sirajo Madawaki, said the case was transferred to the network office in the state from Abuja, and an investigation into the case has since begun.

Madawaki assured that the network would pursue the case to its logical conclusion and ensure that the suspects were prosecuted and the children reunited with their various parents.

The suspect, ASP Kulu, who was said to be serving with the Kubwa Division, had applied for leave, which was not granted before her trip to Sokoto.
