A fatal auto crash which occurred in the Kwanan Maciji area of Pankshin Local Government of Plateau State, has killed 19 people and left 11 others seriously injured.
The unfortunate crash occurred on Saturday as a group of travellers, returning from a wedding ceremony, met their untimely death.
The victims, who had journeyed from Kano State to Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in Plateau State for the ceremony, were heading back home when the accident happened.
John Dasar, Chairman of the Pankshin Local Government Area Emergency Management Committee, confirmed the incident, describing it as a harrowing tragedy.
He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, calling for improved road safety measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
“In the aftermath of the crash, bystanders were helping to evacuate passengers from the vehicle when it suddenly caught fire,” Dasar said. “Unfortunately, 19 of the occupants were trapped and burnt beyond recognition. The driver and a few others managed to survive.”
The 11 survivors, some with serious injuries, were rushed to the Pankshin General Hospital for treatment.
